Throughout this report, we highlight several inspiring initiatives accomplished in 2023 by volunteers working together through meaningful partnerships that had significant, beneficial impacts in our communities. We also share highlights from the Foundation's history that demonstrate how we have been making a difference for a quarter of a century.
In 2023 through the Foundation, 931 volunteers worked on 77 projects that served or impacted an estimated 13,206 individuals.
To commemorate the Foundation’s 25th anniversary, each of the firm’s 13 office committees chose a service activity supporting a local community organization in addition to other initiatives and projects held throughout the year.
Each year around the December holidays, the Foundation supports individuals, families, and local organizations through various projects and activities. In 2023, the Foundation continued to bring joy and happiness to many by providing gift cards for individuals experiencing homelessness, purchasing needed winter items, donating food and funds to food banks, sponsoring families, providing bicycles to children, supporting community holiday programs, filling holiday stockings and gift bags, and sharing holiday cheer with Santa visits.
Annual Holiday Projects
In 1998, Holland & Hart firm leaders implemented the vision of co-founders Sam and Jean Guyton to form a dedicated nonprofit organization to foster volunteerism, camaraderie amongst colleagues, and reinforce the importance of giving back to the firm’s local communities.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary, each of the firm’s 13 offices chose a service activity supporting a local community organization. The project impacts are highlighted on the left and a collage of some of the projects as well as a listing of our community partner organizations are included in the slides on the right.

Since 2002, the Mississippi Project has supported the West Tallahatchie School District by donating funds for three annual awards granted based on recommendations from the community: one scholarship for a promising student and two teacher recognition awards. Members of the Foundation’s board have been honored to visit the school district several times over the years to meet teachers, students, and school administrators and see firsthand the impact of the Foundation’s support. The 2023 recipients are:

Mississippi Project
Every summer since 2019, the Foundation has held an annual firmwide school supply drive finding different ways to help support students and meet the specific needs of local schools and community organizations by providing supplies or educational services. Last summer, volunteers collaborated on several initiatives to deliver back-to-school supplies and backpacks and serve as summer reading buddies. We extend our gratitude to everyone who volunteered and supported students in our communities in their education journeys.

The Billings office partnered with the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools Reading Rocks program as reading buddies. Reading Rocks provides free books, reading mentorship, and storytelling by community members to elementary school-aged children in conjunction with the School District II’s Free Lunch in the Parks summer program.
The Denver office supported A Precious Child’s “Fill A Backpack” program by collecting supplies and donating 130 filled backpacks, 22 additional empty backpacks, and three boxes of extra supplies for students starting the school year in kindergarten through high school.
The Reno office supported Communities in Schools (CIS) of Western Nevada’s “Fill the Bus” annual school supply drive again. Office volunteers collected two large bins full of priority supplies needed for students as they return to school and during the upcoming academic year.
The annual Foundation Santa visit brought many smiles, joy, and holiday magic to children, families, and young-at-heart adults in the Denver office and virtually. Over 30 children were able to experience this special tradition, sharing personal conversations and recounting the highlights of the past year.
In Denver, the office supported the Lennox Guest Home residents and employees through an annual holiday gift giving initiative. Volunteers, including members of the firm’s Private Client Group, assembled cheerful gift bags for each resident, including a personalized holiday card and $20 in cash. Two gift baskets with festive goodies were also prepared for the Lennox employees.
The Salt Lake City office again supported the Utah Food Bank by participating in its Holiday Food & Fund Drive through the JustGiving online giving program. This year the office exceeded its contribution goal and raised $4,370 in monetary donations, the equivalent of 17,444 meals.
In Reno, the office partnered with the Washoe County Human Services Agency’s Senior Services Division by hosting a clothing drive and held a fund drive to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Volunteers collected and donated two large bins of new and gently used winter items for local community seniors in need and donated $400 to the food bank, an amount that provides 1,200 meals!
The Las Vegas office was proud to support The Salvation Army Southern Nevada Angel Giving Tree toy drive program again this year. Volunteers collected 58 toys for 25 children ages infant to 12 and donated over $150 in gift cards to various stores for teens between ages 13 to 17.
In Boise, the office supported the Women’s & Children’s Alliance (WCA) by fulfilling holiday wish-list items for a sponsored family and Boise Bicycle Project’s Holiday Kid’s Bike Giveaway, where the Foundation adopted 10 Dream Bicycles, provided warm clothing, and volunteered at the 2023 giveaway community event.
